Wildfire smoke from Canada impacts US air quality

The worsening conditions in Canada have also impacted the United States. As the smoke drifted southward, the National Weather Service issued air quality warnings across the Upper Midwest, including Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Michigan. Since then, the smoke has affected air quality as far south as Florida.

As of June 5, CIFFC reports that 201 wildfires are blazing across Canada, with 103 in Ontario, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta, and British Columbia classified as out of control, meaning they are expected to continue growing.

Smoke from Canadian wildfires continues to affect Michigan's air quality, particularly in the Lower Peninsula. Air quality advisories are in effect, with conditions expected to improve by the weekend — but potentially worsen again.
